The pie of software work is exploding, not growing: with the cost of exploring a hunch down a thousandfold, projects nobody would have contemplated get done.

What this subject means

ambition How much to take on and how hard to push: superlinear returns to effort, focus, slack time, and procrastination.

What David Heinemeier Hansson actually said

Do you hold this korrent?Do you also believe this?

Cannot both be true

Coding agents made implementation cheap without making roadmaps shorter or software better -- the binding constraint was never how fast code gets written.

Hansson says the pie of software work is exploding, not growing, because the cost of exploring a hunch fell a thousandfold and projects nobody would have contemplated now get done. Pai says coding agents made implementation cheap without making roadmaps shorter or software better, because the binding constraint was never how fast code gets written. One counts the new projects; the other says the constraint they run into is unmoved.
In tension with

Peak programmer has passed: the economic value of writing code by hand has peaked, and Jevons' paradox will not bail every programmer out.

Hansson holds both: that the economic value of writing code by hand has peaked and Jevons will not rescue every programmer, and that the pie of software work is exploding because exploring a hunch got a thousand times cheaper. An exploding volume of work and a peaked value for doing it are not contradictory, and the space between them is where the argument about what programmers should do next actually is.

Shared subject first, then similar wording. They may agree or disagree.
