Mate makes childhood trauma the template for every addiction, including the socially rewarded ones, and locates the injury in what happened. Schwartz says the body-keeps-the-score story is only half of it, and that a body described only as a harbinger of the past is a body people learn to avoid. Same clinical material, opposite emphasis about where the patient should be looking.
