Models they name

Their own words name the idea.

Signalling

Much of what people do is a message about themselves, and a signal is believed only when it costs something to send.

Side projects are a good signal for enthusiasm, since people building serious things on the side are passionate about building, designing or engineering.

  1. Nev Flynn Head of Design at ElevenLabs I think it's a good signal. I think it really aligns closely with that enthusiastic piece. You don't find people that are building serious things on the side that aren't really passionate or enthusiastic about like building or designing or engineering. A portfolio should show the one or two recent projects where you have developed as a designer and honed the craft, rather than older, weaker ones.

  1. Nev Flynn Head of Design at ElevenLabs the early ones were were quite bad and then like as we get closer to present day, they get better. So, doesn't really make sense for me to have a portfolio that includes all those things. Why not why not show the one or two recent ones where I've developed as a designer and I've honed the craft.
