Karpathy says an LLM broad shallow expertise lets a person do things outside their one field that they could not do before. Mollick says that because of hallucination risk you should use AI first on topics you already understand. The advice and the promise point at exactly opposite parts of the map.

Tao says the mathematical community as a whole is a superintelligent entity no single mathematician comes close to. Karpathy says an LLM benefits the individual far more than the organisation, because a person is an expert in at most one thing while an organisation only gets better at what it already did. If Tao is right about mathematics, the collective is the thing that would gain most.
