Italy and the euro
Then
Better to leave the euro
It is better for Italy to leave the euro.
Our translation We consider that it is more advantageous for Italy to leave the Euro: if Europe believes this solution is harmful, it will have to find very convincing arguments to ask us to stay.

Never said leave the euro
She does not remember saying Italy should leave the euro; she said Italy could stand in Europe with its head held high, which is what her government is doing.
Our translation I heard you say that I supposedly said we had to leave the euro; I do not remember saying that we had to leave the euro, whereas I remember saying that Italy could stand in Europe with its head held high, and that is exactly what we are doing
Context: Fratelli d'Italia's programme for the 2014 European elections proposed an agreed dissolution of the eurozone; as Prime Minister she was answering a question from Matteo Renzi.
EU sanctions on Russia
Then
Drop Russia sanctions
Italy should immediately withdraw its support for the sanctions on Russia.
Our translation So, very simply, our position is: Italy should immediately withdraw its support for the sanctions against Russia.

Sanctions work, keep them
The sanctions hurt Italian business but they work, and Italy remains committed to them.
Our translation Of course, the sanctions are painful for our productive fabric, but they have proved effective, since they are having an undoubted effect on the Russian war effort, and we believe they play a fundamental role in hastening the end of the conflict and leading to sustainable negotiations.
Context: The 2014 sanctions followed Russia's annexation of Crimea; the 2022 statement came after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
