Writing in 2018, he calls the disengagement an experiment that failed: Gaza was handed to Hamas, not the Palestinian Authority that supporters, himself among them, expected.
"בעזה לא שולטת הרשות הפלסטינית, כפי שציפו תומכי ההתנתקות, ואני ביניהם. עזה למעשה נמסרה לידי חמאס."
Our translation The Palestinian Authority does not rule in Gaza, as the supporters of the disengagement expected, and I am among them. Gaza was in effect handed over to Hamas.

Complete the disengagement
Twenty years after the disengagement, he writes that the time has come to complete it with a full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, in exchange for all the hostages.
"לכן לא נותר לנו אלא לסגת מהרצועה נסיגה מלאה, תמורת שחרור כל החטופים ויצירת אזור חיץ"
Our translation Therefore we have no choice but to withdraw from the Strip, a full withdrawal, in exchange for the release of all the hostages and the creation of a buffer zone.
